Against the whites of the eyes and the skin. Teeth brighter than the eyes look artificial; teeth a tone above nature look healthy.
How it is chosen
In daylight, with the patient’s face in view, and with photographs sent to the ceramist. Never from a shade tab alone under clinic lights.
How it is kept
Whitening before restorations so everything is designed to the new colour, and maintenance with a take-home kit. Restorations do not change shade, so the natural teeth are kept to match them.
