Forces first
Every mouth generates biting forces that are measured in the bite analysis. Where those forces are heavy, the design uses stronger materials, thicker sections and, if needed, a night guard.
Material to task
Zirconia for molars and grinders, lithium disilicate for front teeth, composite bonding for small repairs. Choosing the strongest material everywhere would cost translucency; choosing the prettiest everywhere would cost fractures.
Beauty on a stable base
With the structural decisions made, shade, shape and translucency can be refined freely. Strength is not the enemy of beauty; it is what allows it to last.
