How it works
Peroxide releases oxygen that breaks the chromophores responsible for yellowing. Concentration, contact time and gum protection decide the balance between result and sensitivity.
Why supervision matters
A dentist checks that the teeth are healthy, protects the gums, chooses the concentration and manages sensitivity. Unsupervised high-concentration products cause the problems that give whitening a bad name.
What it cannot do
Whiten restorations, remove grey discolouration from a dead tooth (which is treated internally), or last forever. Maintenance with a take-home kit keeps the result.
